Summary: Ulster Linen
Key dates:
Ulster became increasingly prosperous because of the linen trade which developed there. This dated back to Louis Crommelin who established the linen trade in Lurgan after the Wiliamite Wars at the end of the 17th century. The Linen Board was set up in 1710 and a Linen Hall was built in Dublin. To save the cost of transport, linen halls were then built in Belfast and Newry in 1782.
