Summary: Giant’s Causeway Tramway

Key dates:

The Giant’s Causeway Tramway opened in 1883 and it linked Portrush to the causeway. The tramway was popular in summer but this was when hydro-electric power was less plentiful. The company also ran into problems because the Bush was an important salmon river and consequently there was opposition to the construction of the water turbines which interrupted the flow of water in the river.
